An international quality standard, based upon ISO 9001: 1994, which defines the fundamental quality system expectations of Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Truck Manufacturers and other companies for internal and external suppliers of production and service parts and materials.
Now at 2nd edition 2002, ISO/TS 16949 is an ISO Technical Specification which aligns existing US, French, Italian and German automotive quality system standards (such as QS9000, VDA-6.1, EAQF and AVSQ) within the global automotive industry. It is highly likely that the Japanese will follow suit. Together with ISO9001:2008 it specifies the quality system requirements for the design/development, production, installation and servicing of automotive related products.
